People really love lists. But do you use them on your blog? Here are 5 reasons why you SHOULD.
1. They are short
List posts usually tend to be short and to the point. They speak for themselves.
2. They are scannable
Most readers are lazy and tend to scan content rather than read it word for word because reading is too boring for them. They want to do not read. That’s why this type of posts is the perfect one for this type of readers.
3. Lists go viral
They are the most popular posts. Look at Digg, Delicious and other sites like that. At least one of their most popular posts will be lists and most probably a list will be even the post of day or the most popular post! Lists go viral very fast – people tweet them, like them on Facebook, comment, talk about them…
4. They are easy to write
There are many techniques to turning a headline of an ordinary post in a list post but here’s mine. Pick a headline, for example – “WordPress Review”. Then think about what you like and don’t like in that thing about which you will write, what are hidden things – anything like that. See if you can now write a post with a headline like “10 WordPress secrets you must know” or “5 reasons why I use WordPress and why you should too”… Then write it!
5. People love lists
As I said before – lists go viral. People just love them. Most probably you read a list or even a couple today! They grab people’s attention with just the start of headline – “9 reasons …”, “5 best …”, “10 … that you should use”… People read a couple of lists every day and most of them don’t even know it.
